Compline is the office which "completes" the day. Prayed as you prepare for sleep, it is (in part) a daily dress-rehearsal for the hour of one's death. Nearly identical each night, we join the Psalmist in praying "In peace I will lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me rest in safety." We conclude with the petition, "Lord grant me a restful night and a peaceful death." In these recordings I have also added the Salve Regina from the monastic liturgy at the very end.
